"I do think more needs to be done to give people a little bit of certainty because as we talk to customers, I think the uncertainty of what happens in five years is likely to be an impediment to, like, putting serious assets onto this technology." — Vlad Tenev, CEO, Robinhood Markets
Robinhood Chain, the Arbitrum-based Layer 2 network launched July 1, 2026, crossed $1.14 billion in total value locked as of October 22, after enabling Stock Tokens as collateral on the Morpho lending protocol. In a single week ending October 27, the chain absorbed two additional integrations: Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin — which will reach Robinhood's 28.6 million funded customer accounts by year-end — and 15 tokenized stocks from Ondo Finance paired through Uniswap v4 StablePair pools.
The convergence of tokenized equities, multiple stablecoin rails, and DeFi lending on a single retail-brokerage-operated chain marks a structural shift. Robinhood Chain generated $26 million in revenue during Q3 2026 — its first full quarter of operation — while the company's broader crypto trading revenue fell 55% year over year to $120 million. The chain is becoming a hedge against declining spot-trading fees.
Robinhood Chain went live on July 1, 2026, built on Arbitrum's technology stack with 100-millisecond block times and settlement to Ethereum. By late September, the network had processed 576 million transactions across 12.3 million addresses, according to on-chain data. TVL reached $1.14 billion by October 22, with $1.052 billion in stablecoin market capitalization and $335 million in active real-world assets.
The chain launched with more than 2,000 tokenized instruments tradeable 24/7 across 120+ countries, with a minimum entry of €1. Integrated protocols at launch included Uniswap, 1inch, Lighter, Chainlink, and Arcus. Morpho arrived later, adding a lending layer that now holds $1.10 billion in deposits and $484.3 million in outstanding loans on the chain.
Bridged TVL — assets transferred onto the chain from Ethereum and other networks — stands at $2.474 billion, indicating substantial capital inflows beyond the DeFi TVL figure.
On October 27, Ripple and Robinhood announced a partnership spanning stablecoins, institutional trading, and corporate treasury operations. RLUSD, Ripple's dollar-backed stablecoin launched in December 2024, has reached $2.5 billion in market capitalization. Under the agreement, RLUSD will become available on Robinhood Chain and on Bitstamp (which Robinhood acquired), with a planned listing on the Robinhood retail app before year-end.
The integration has three layers. First, RLUSD adds a second major stablecoin to Robinhood Chain alongside Paxos's USDG, diversifying settlement rails. Second, Robinhood will integrate Ripple Treasury to automate global cash management, liquidity forecasting, payments, risk management, and intercompany netting. Third, the companies will collaborate on lending, secured financing, and spot trading through Ripple Prime.
Ripple separately received final OCC approval on October 26 to launch a U.S. national trust bank, giving it a federal regulatory framework for custody and stablecoin reserves. Brad Garlinghouse, Ripple CEO, stated: "A national trust charter gives us an even stronger foundation for RLUSD and the institutional products we're building across payments, custody and capital markets."
The distribution reach is the headline figure: Robinhood's 28.6 million funded customer accounts represent a direct pipeline from a federally chartered stablecoin issuer to a retail brokerage's existing user base.
Also on October 27, Ondo Finance launched 15 tokenized stocks and ETFs on Robinhood Chain, accessible through Ondo Bridge from Ethereum and BNB Chain. Eleven of the 15 tokens are paired with corresponding Robinhood Stock Tokens via Uniswap v4 StablePair pools.
The assets with Robinhood pairs include: Nvidia (NVDAon), Apple (AAPLon), Tesla (TSLAon), SpaceX, Meta, Alphabet, Strategy, Circle, GameStop, SPDR S&P 500 ETF, and Invesco QQQ Nasdaq-100 ETF. Four additional tokens — Robinhood (HOODon), BitMine Immersion Technologies (BMNRon), iShares China Large-Cap ETF (FXIon), and United States Copper Index Fund (CPERon) — launched without matching Robinhood counterparts.
The technical rationale centers on weekend pricing. Robinhood Stock Tokens cannot be minted or redeemed on weekends when traditional markets are closed, creating price dislocations. Ondo tokens, by contrast, support round-the-clock minting and redemption on Ethereum and BNB Chain. The StablePair pools use Uniswap's dynamic fee adjustment mechanism, which raises liquidity provider fees when the paired assets diverge from their expected price relationship. This creates arbitrage opportunities that keep prices anchored.
Ondo's broader metrics underline the scale: $4 billion in platform-wide TVL, $1.3 billion in tokenized stocks and ETFs specifically, over 450,000 cumulative holders (with 1 million across all Ondo products), $28 billion in cumulative trading volume, and coverage of more than 450 tokenized instruments. The platform launched in September 2025 and executives have projected $5 billion in TVL by year-end 2026.
It should be noted that Ondo Finance founder Nathan Allman died on May 25, 2026. Ian De Bode is serving as acting CEO.
On October 22, Robinhood Crypto announced that Stock Tokens can be pledged as collateral to borrow USDG stablecoins through Morpho's isolated lending markets. Three collateral types are currently accepted: Robinhood NVDA, SPCX, and SPY Stock Tokens.
Liquidation loan-to-value thresholds vary by asset: 62.5% for NVDA and SPCX tokens, and 77% for SPY. The higher threshold for SPY reflects the diversification of an index product versus single-stock exposure.
The product is restricted to non-U.S. persons and jurisdictions. Morpho's dashboard shows approximately $1.10 billion in deposits, $484.3 million in outstanding loans, and $606.9 million in protocol TVL on Robinhood Chain.
This creates a DeFi primitive that did not previously exist at this scale: borrowing dollar stablecoins against tokenized equity positions, with automated liquidation mechanics. The economic logic mirrors traditional margin lending — pledging securities for cash — but operates on permissionless rails with transparent, on-chain parameters.
Robinhood reported Q3 2026 results on October 28. Total net revenue reached a record $1.42 billion, up 12% year over year, but net income of $476 million was down 14%. Diluted EPS of $0.51 missed analyst expectations of $0.55.
The crypto segment tells the structural story. Crypto transaction revenue fell 55% year over year to $120 million on $49.8 billion in volume (down 38% YoY, though up 23% sequentially). Meanwhile, Robinhood Chain generated $26 million in its first full quarter, processing over $800 billion in DEX trading volume with approximately $50 million in total on-chain fees, of which roughly half accrued to Robinhood.
For context, Robinhood's event contracts (prediction markets) generated $173 million in Q3 — 44% more than crypto trading. This was the first quarter in which prediction market revenue exceeded crypto trading revenue. Options trading led all transaction categories at $399 million, up 31% YoY.
The $26 million chain revenue figure, while modest against $1.42 billion in total revenue, represents a new fee stream that did not exist six months ago. If Robinhood Chain sustains this pace, it would annualize to approximately $104 million — nearly matching the declining crypto trading line. The chain revenue is also structurally different: it captures infrastructure and protocol-level fees rather than brokerage commissions, making it less sensitive to spot-market volatility cycles.
USDG, the Paxos-issued stablecoin serving as Robinhood Chain's native yield asset, has grown to $3.08 billion in total supply as of October 26. Of that, $677 million sits on Robinhood Chain, making it the chain's dominant stablecoin at 65.67% of on-chain stablecoin market cap.
Through Robinhood Earn, users purchase USDG, hold it in the self-custody Robinhood Wallet, and lend it through Morpho vaults for an estimated 7% APY. The addition of RLUSD creates a two-stablecoin ecosystem on the chain, potentially fragmenting liquidity but also adding redundancy and user choice.
USDG's reserves comprise U.S. Treasury securities and bank deposits held at regulated custodians. The stablecoin has grown approximately 340% year over year, according to CryptoBriefing, driven primarily by its integration into Robinhood's ecosystem.
The SEC issued a temporary innovation exemption for tokenized securities earlier in 2026, providing a five-year runway for platforms operating tokenized stocks. Tenev explicitly flagged this as insufficient during the Q3 earnings call: "So I still think some rule-making or legislation is going to be necessary, even though, of course, it's a positive step, and we hope to have more to share on our own US tokenization plans in the near future."
The concern is practical. If large asset managers, pension funds, or sovereign wealth funds consider allocating to tokenized instruments, a five-year exemption creates cliff risk. The current regulatory framework works for early adopters and retail experimenters. It does not work for institutional capital that plans in decades.
Separately, Robinhood Chain's tokenized equity products — including the Morpho lending feature — remain restricted to non-U.S. users. The U.S. tokenization strategy appears to depend on further SEC action or Congressional legislation.
Robinhood Chain is assembling the components of a vertically integrated onchain brokerage: tokenized equities (Robinhood Stock Tokens + Ondo), stablecoin settlement (USDG + RLUSD), lending (Morpho), and automated market-making (Uniswap v4). The chain generated measurable revenue in its first full quarter while the company's traditional crypto trading business contracted.
The open question is whether a retail brokerage operating its own Layer 2 chain creates durable economic value or simply redistributes existing brokerage fees into a different technological stack. At $26 million in Q3 chain revenue against $1.42 billion in total company revenue, the bet remains early-stage. The addition of Ripple's stablecoin distribution network and Ondo's tokenized stock liquidity accelerates the experiment but does not resolve the regulatory ambiguity that Tenev identified as the primary constraint on institutional adoption.
