"We don't have a shortage of coins, we have a shortage of reasons to hold them." — Mystral, Solana memecoin trader, October 2026
Solana's token launchpad ecosystem produced 11.5 million new tokens between November 2025 and October 2026, according to a Bitquery investigation published October 19, 2026. Of those launched on Pump.fun — which accounted for 78% of the total — 79% never recorded a single trade after launch day. By week five, just 1.5% showed any trading activity at all. Only one in 58 Pump.fun tokens graduated to full trading pools.
The memecoin sector's total market capitalization has fallen from a peak of approximately $135–$150 billion in late 2024 to $29.9 billion as of mid-October 2026, an 82% decline. Pump.fun's own daily revenue dropped 83%, from $4.8 million in early 2025 to roughly $800,000 by mid-2026. The platform's PUMP governance token has lost over 80% from its September 2025 highs. Meanwhile, sandwich bots extracted $29.7 million in gross revenue from 6.85 million attacks on Solana over the same 11-month period, with 96% of attacks targeting Pump.fun pools.
The data presents a picture of a token production system operating at industrial scale but delivering negligible lasting economic value to the vast majority of participants.
Bitquery's dataset, covering November 1, 2025 through October 7, 2026, tracked 11.5 million unique tokens that recorded at least one trade on Solana. The median day saw roughly 32,000 new tokens, with approximately 26,000 of those originating from Pump.fun alone.
Platform market share shifted substantially over the period. Pump.fun's share of new token launches rose from 65% in November 2025 to 90% by August 2026. Meteora Dynamic Bonding Curve fell from 23% to 5% over the same period. Raydium LaunchLab held approximately 4% of the market.
On a single day — October 19, 2026 — MemeFees tracked 21,765 launches across eight platforms: Flap.sh led with 10,570, Pump.fun recorded 9,284, and Pons contributed 1,707. Seven-day averages at that time showed Pump.fun at 17,726 daily launches and Flap.sh at 11,325.
The volume of issuance has no precedent in financial markets. For context, the New York Stock Exchange listed 2,272 total companies as of the end of 2025. Solana's launchpad ecosystem produces more new tokens in a single day than the NYSE lists in a decade.
The Bitquery data reveals that token survival varies significantly by platform, but the outcome is uniformly poor:

Graduation — the process by which a token accumulates enough liquidity to move from the bonding curve to a full AMM pool — remains rare. On Pump.fun, one in 58 tokens graduated overall. The graduation rate improved from one in 144 for November 2025 launches to one in 32 for August 2026 launches, but the quality of graduations is questionable: 33% of September 2026 graduations took three trades or fewer to trigger.
Graduated tokens showed materially better longevity — 43% still traded in their fifth week, versus 1% of non-graduated tokens. This suggests the graduation mechanism functions as a weak but real quality filter.
Pump.fun's dominance in Solana memecoin issuance is accompanied by a revenue model that extracts value regardless of token outcomes.
On October 17, 2026, Pump.fun introduced a new platform fee: 0.45% on every trade executed through the web or mobile app for wallets without a referral code, and 0.40% for referred wallets. Combined with the existing 1.25% bonding-curve pool fee, total charges before network costs now reach 1.70% per trade.
Despite this, Pump.fun's daily revenue fell from approximately $4.8 million in early 2025 to roughly $800,000 by mid-2026 — an 83% decline. The weekly protocol fee snapshot showed Pump.fun generating $1.88 million in the week ending mid-October 2026, still leading protocol fee rankings.
The platform's token-graduation rate averaged 0.26% per week by mid-2026. Its PUMP governance token fell over 80% from September 2025 highs and traded at approximately $0.001482 as of mid-June 2026, down 13% for the month. Pump.fun instituted a buy-and-burn mechanism for PUMP tokens using a portion of collected fees.
In February 2026, Pump.fun introduced cashback incentives for traders and created a $3 million project support fund. In October 2026, it launched perpetual futures built on Hyperliquid infrastructure directly within its app.
The Bitquery maker analysis reveals a highly concentrated production structure. Between November 2025 and July 2026, 1.26 million unique wallets created 6.1 million Pump.fun token launches. Three-quarters of those wallets launched exactly one coin. The top 524 wallets — representing 0.04% of all makers — produced 48% of all launches. The busiest single wallet launched one token every four minutes.
Separately, Pump.fun introduced "curve-skip pools" that allowed tokens to bypass the bonding curve and deploy directly to PumpSwap. Through July 5, 2026, 451,402 coins used this path. Of those, 99% had their pools emptied by developers. The median duration before developer withdrawal was 12 minutes; 87% were drained within one hour. Some 95% of SOL losses were traced to wallets connected to the token developers.
Bot activity compounds the problem. Bitquery's sandwich attack study recorded 6,850,144 sandwich attacks between October 30, 2025 and October 7, 2026, executed by 2,545 bot wallets and affecting 2,154,994 unique user wallets. Gross bot revenue totaled $29.7 million before costs. Pump.fun's bonding curve and PumpSwap pools accounted for 96% of all detected attacks. Approximately 39% of bot earnings came from transactions involving other bots — snipers, high-frequency traders, and competing sandwich operators.
A separate finding noted that 24% of new Pump.fun pools showed bot-like trading bursts of 20 or more trades within 15 minutes.
Bitquery's trader study sampled 2.9 million ordinary wallets that purchased new Solana memecoins during launch weeks from November 2025 to August 2026. Within two weeks of their purchase, 74% of buyers held less SOL than they had invested, after fees. The median buyer lost $13. Aggregate losses totaled approximately $269 million across the sampled cohort.
An earlier study by Solidus Labs analyzed more than seven million tokens deployed on Pump.fun between January 2024 and March 2025 and classified 98.6% as rug pulls or pump-and-dump schemes.
The economic structure is clear: the median participant loses money. Value accrues to platform operators (through fees), to the small cohort of prolific launchers, and to MEV bots. The token itself serves primarily as a vehicle for fee extraction.
The total memecoin market capitalization peaked at approximately $135–$150 billion in November–December 2024 and stood at $29.9 billion as of October 18, 2026, according to market data aggregators — an 82% decline.
Concentration within the category has intensified. As of October 2026:
The top three tokens accounted for 56% of total sector valuation. Thirty-day performance among major memecoins as of mid-October 2026: Dogecoin down 20.5%, Pepe down 21%, Shiba Inu down 14%, Bonk down 69% year-on-year, Fartcoin down 89% year-on-year.
Solana network fees attributable to memecoin activity fell from 33,000 SOL per day in January 2026 to 5,300 SOL per day by June 2026 — a sixfold reduction.
The broader crypto market lost $360 billion in October 2026, with total market capitalization falling from $2.94 trillion to $2.58 trillion. Centralized exchange spot volume dropped 14.2% in Q3 2026 to $1.65 trillion per month, even as total crypto market cap rose 39.6% during the same quarter — suggesting speculative trading activity is decoupling from price.
The economic structure of memecoin launchpads resembles a fee-extraction machine more than a capital-formation mechanism.
At current Pump.fun fee levels (1.70% all-in per trade), a token that sees $10,000 in lifetime trading volume generates $170 in platform revenue regardless of whether any holder profits. With 26,000 new tokens per day, even minimal trading activity per token aggregates into substantial platform income.
The three Q4 2026 scenarios outlined by crypto.news for the memecoin sector illustrate the narrow range of outcomes:
In all three scenarios, launchpad fee generation persists due to continuous issuance volume.
The Solana memecoin launchpad ecosystem has achieved unprecedented scale in token issuance — and an equally unprecedented failure rate. The data from Bitquery, Solidus Labs, and on-chain analytics paints a consistent picture: the vast majority of tokens are economically inert within minutes of creation, the median retail participant loses money, and value accrues to platform operators, prolific token launchers, and automated bots.
The sector's $110 billion decline from peak reflects not a temporary market downturn but the structural reality of a system where 98.6% of output is classified as fraudulent. Pump.fun's response — adding perpetual futures, cashback programs, and fee increases — addresses platform revenue, not the underlying market failure.
The memecoin market has effectively become a closed loop: tokens are created, traded briefly among a small set of participants and bots, and abandoned. Fee extraction continues at every step. For participants evaluating the economic value generated by this activity, the data is unambiguous.
